Welcome to the first installment of New Village picks! Where we choose 5 movies on Tubi for you to watch. First a little house cleaning. We are not sponsored, nor do we work with Tubi in any official capacity. We emailed them once to pitch this idea and got an automated email from their legal department saying that they do not accept unsolicited ideas. So why do this when we are a platform that shows movies? The short answer is that we are a rental platform and Tubi is 100% free (with ads) just because we don’t work with Tubitv doesn’t mean their service isn’t cool as it is available to anyone with an internet connection. If they put up a paywall, we will stop doing these. So with that out of the way let’s get into this weeks picks!
5. CYBORG
Arguably one of the best Van Damme films I have ever seen. It’s weird, it’s action packed, and takes place in the future. It also has one of the coolest bad guys Van Damme has ever faced, minus “Kickboxer” villain Tong Po, played by Michel Qissi who just so happens to have been Jean-Claude Van Damme’s fight instructor in Cyborg.
The film was directed by Albert Pyun whose past films include “Dollman”, “Radioactive Dreams”, and “Aliens Gone Wild” to name a few of my favorites. The film stars Jean-Claude Van Damme, Deborah Richter, and Vincent Klyn.
Synopsis:
Deteriorating from a deadly plague, 21st-Century America is descending into a barbaric nightmare. Only Pearl Prophet, a beautiful half human/half cyborg, has the knowledge necessary to develop a vaccine. But during her quest to bring the cure to the world, Pearl is captured by cannibalistic Flesh Pirates who plot to keep the antidote for themselves and rule the world. Now, only saber-wielding hero Gibson Rickenbacker can rescue her and save civilization.

4. THE BABY
You want to watch something weird? If you said yes then you should watch “The Baby” from 1973. Directed by Ted Post who is known for “Magnum Force”, “Hang ’em High”, and “Beneath the Planet of the Apes”. It is one of my go to flicks on movie night when someone says they want to watch something strange. It is also one of those movies people get up and leave from, which is exactly why I like it so much.
The movie stars Anjanette Comer, Marianna Hill, David Mooney, and Ruth Roman.
Synopsis:
A social worker, still reeling from the loss of her architect husband, investigates the eccentric, psychedelic Wadsworth Family, consisting of a mother, two daughters, and an adult son with the apparent mental capacity of an infant.

3. FREEWAY 2
Confessions of a Trick Baby
Freeway 2 is one of my favorite movies of all time. It is absolutely bizarre, unapologetic in it’s telling, and riddled with one liners you won’t be allowed to say in front of most people. It took the filmmaker 17 cuts to get it through the Nazis at the MPAA so you know it’s good. The film is also modeled off of Hansel and Gretel so if you are into fairy-tales you’re going to love it.

2. BODY MELT
Ozploitation is a thing and if you don’t know about it you need to read up on it. We have an article being written as we speak on the subject so you could just wait for that to come out. “Body Melt” was the film that introduced me to the genre and sent me down a rabbit hole I hope to never leave. If you like body gore with humor you will love this movie.

1. SOCIETY
At the top of our list, or bottom if you want to be literal, we have Society. There is a special place in hell for movies this f’d up and that is where you would find me if hell existed. Sex, gore, wealth, and privilege are at the center of this splatter-piece. So if you want to get the best experience I would say watch this one while you’re eating.
