THE ATTITUDE ERA

Written by Videobot | March 27, 2023

It was a time of turmoil, a time of change. The WWE, once the biggest name in professional wrestling, was on the ropes. The competition was fierce, and Ted Turner’s WCW was breathing down their necks. It seemed like every time the WWE gained some ground, WCW would come back stronger, with bigger stars and bigger ratings. Something had to give.

That something turned out to be the Attitude Era. It was a time of gritty, hardcore wrestling, with edgy storylines and colorful characters that pushed the envelope in ways that had never been seen before. It was a time when Stone Cold Steve Austin flipped off his boss and called him a son of a bitch on live TV, a time when D-Generation X did crotch chops and told everyone to suck it, and a time when Mick Foley, as Mankind, was thrown off the top of a steel cage.

The Attitude Era was a direct response to WCW’s dominance, and it was a gamble that paid off in spades. The WWE went against the grain, pushing the envelope and embracing controversy in ways that Ted Turner and his conservative corporate overlords would never have dared. The fans responded in… READ MORE

What if Aliens were on a religious crusade?

Written by Videobot | March 24, 2023

The possibility of extraterrestrial life visiting Earth has always been a fascinating concept. A concept that people usually imagine in one of two ways. One is that they would “come in peace” and bring with them new technologies that would spring humans into a new era of being. The second is that they would come to take over the planet for our resources, like in “war of the worlds”. However, what if these aliens were not part of either group, but on a religious crusade? This hypothetical scenario raises many questions about the impact of such an event on humanity….  READ MORE

MODERN GRINDHOUSE

The world of cinema has been revolutionized by the emergence of modern grindhouse films. These movies, with their raw, uncut and unapologetic style, have taken the film industry by storm. They offer a refreshing change from the formulaic, cookie-cutter blockbusters that have dominated cinemas for far too long. But what makes these films so important? To understand the significance of modern grindhouse cinema, one must delve into the psyche of the film-goer and the cultural climate of today’s society.

Grindhouse cinema is a throwback to the exploitation films of….  READ MORE

SUPERHERO FLICKS

Written by Videobot | March 19, 2023

The superhero genre has become a tired and formulaic attempt at making money, with cookie-cutter characters, predictable plot-lines, and uninspired dialogue. It’s a bloated and over-hyped genre that has seen better days. A tired old actor in a cape fighting a tennis ball is far from exciting, yet it doesn’t stop the masses from dishing out their hard earned money to see it. Why? Are we a society broken? Do we need a hero that bad? Or maybe we’re just looking for something comforting and familiar, like a baby and its pacifier.

But there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Independent films are shaking things up, exploring unconventional themes, and pushing boundaries in ways that Hollywood simply can’t. These films are made outside of the studio system, free from…  READ MORE

THE OSCARS

Written by Videobot | March 18, 2023

The Oscars, to put it bluntly, are a spectacle. A glitzy, over-the-top display of Hollywood excess that’s more about stroking egos and selling ad space than it is about honoring the best in filmmaking. It’s a clown show, an elite pissing contest, and one that’s played out on a grand stage for all the world to see.

But let’s be clear: I’m not calling every actor, performer, and filmmaker in attendance a clown. But rather the industry itself, with its endless self-promotion and its willingness to overlook talent in favor of box office numbers. The Oscars are a reminder that, for all its talk of art and creativity, Hollywood is still a business, and a cutthroat one at that… READ MORE
